A Wanaka wedding with a signature cocktail named Elderflower Gin Fizz, scrumptious food and fabulous company is always going to be a fun and relaxed affair!
Organised to the hilt (this bride is an Operations Manager with a wedding planner onboard!), the only thing that wasn’t within Caro and her team’s organisational power was the weather! The day dawned sunny and bright but with rain brewing in the hills around Wanaka, Caro and Loz guessed Plan B was on the cards.
Sure enough the skies opened, inducing a mad yet seemingly choreographed frenzy at Lookout Lodge just prior to Caro arriving! Every available hand helped move reception tables and rearrange seating for a lovely (dry) indoor ceremony.
With Caro no longer on tenterhooks as to where her wedding ceremony was going to take place, her smile was more radiant than before…if that was actually possible! What unfolded was a beautiful ceremony laced with moments unique to both Caro and Loz. It was one of those ceremonies that as photographer I had to work hard to keep my eye up to the camera and my finger poised over the shutter button! Getting swept away in the moment alongside everyone else is an occupational hazard in my job!
Post-ceremony and the rain wasn’t letting up, the much-awaited helicopter flight over Wanaka to Coromandel Peak was cancelled and family photos took place indoors. Prepared to brave the elements, the wedding party dashed outside for their photos to find the rain was easing. A gorgeous misty Mount Gold sat majestically in the background and the light was just stunning!
Bundling Caro and Loz up into their cute little wedding VW van, we zipped away for a few quick photos alone. Knowing the area and the weather, I had made a few phone calls to friends the day before and secured a photography location close by. Nothing like what we would’ve experienced on top of Coromandel Peak above Lake Wanaka, but still lovely in its own way.
I remember when the decision was made not to fly, Caro and I looked at each other and said, almost unanimously, “Rock the Frock? Lets fly!”
Despite the rain Caro and Loz’s day was filled with love and laughter that never eased. It was an honour to be asked to be a part of their day, surrounded by their closest friends and family. Caro and Loz, I wish you both all the happiness in your new life together as Mr & Mrs! Nx
Lace, pocket squares and smiles all round! Getting ready earlier in the day oblivious to the hum-thrum of the town as the Wanaka Challenge race was in full swing…
Guests sheltering from the rain at Lookout Lodge while the reception area is made ready for an indoor ceremony…
With their fur baby and ring bearer, Tui…
A cute little VW van and smiles all round as the rain started to ease later in the day…
Couscous the cat wants in on some of the wedding photo action! Caro doesn’t look too sure and Loz knows it!
If you’re going to talk-the-talk, you better know how to walk-the-walk! Caro and Loz looking utterly fabulous…
Murphy’s Law! The rain stopped as Caro and Loz arrived back for their wedding reception…just enough time for some slack-line fun!
The now famous Elderflower Gin Fizz cocktail…
With my photography coverage finished about a half hour into the wedding reception, and the rain stopping completely just before sunset, I dashed back from Wanaka to Lookout Lodge to photograph the one big group photo of everyone there. As well as a few more shots while I was at it…couldn’t help myself!
The following traditional gaelic blessing was read during the wedding ceremony by Caro’s father. It always brings a tear to my eye but makes my heart soar, especially when read with a true Scottish accent!
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
